Vasectomy is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.

Vasectomy’s are considered to be permanent. However, it takes around three months from the time of the procedure for a vasectomy to begin working.

Procedure

Our doctor performed non-scalpel vasectomy (NSV). It is a minimally invasive procedure under local anaesthesia. It takes approximately 30-45 minutes. NSV leaves a small 3-4 mm hole at the front scrotum. No stitches are required.

Steps in the no-scalpel vasectomy

  • A certain area of skin in front of the scrotum will make num by 1% or 2% Xylocaine with Adrenaline 1:100,000 if you don’t have an allergy to it.
  • Once the tubes are located by the doctor, electrocautery use to open skin about 3-4 mm to bring out the tube.
  • Use diathermy to stop bleeding and a small piece of tube (1-2 cm) is removed.
  • Electrocautery to the internal lining of the tube lumen.
  • The ends of the tubes are then sealed with diathermy.
  • Sometimes the doctor will place surrounding tissue between the two ends of the cut tubes to increase the chance of the vasectomy working.
  • No stitches will be needed, and the wound will cover up with dry dressing for a couple of days.
  • Further advice will be provided
