Medicinal cannabis is cannabis prescribed to relieve the symptoms of a medical condition such as epilepsy, chronic pain, etc.
Queensland is making the use of approved medicinal cannabis products possible such as a treatment for the certain condition when the patient has already tried the conventional treatments available for their condition or symptoms and these have failed or cause intolerable side effect.
Cannabidiol (CBD)
Cannabidiol is one of the cannabinoids which extracted as a therapeutic good from cannabis. It is scheduled for 4 (S4) prescription-only medicine. It doesn’t produce any intoxicating effects.
CBD is used to treat epilepsy and inflammatory disorders and relieve pain.
Tetra-hydrocannabinol (THC)
Tetrahydrocannabinol is one of the cannabinoids which extracted as therapeutic good from cannabis. THC, when prepared of packed for human therapeutic use, are “controlled drugs” under schedule 8 (S8) of the poison’s standard.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is used to treat symptoms including pain, nausea and muscle spasticity.
It is associated with some of the intoxicating effects of cannabis
Note: THC is not appropriate for people with a history of psychosis or a current mood or anxiety disorder.
Driving with THC in your system is a criminal offence even if you have been prescribed medical cannabis.
The standard advice for cannabis patients is to wait for five days before driving or risk a fine or a suspended license.
Referral
For the regular patient of the practice, we don’t need a referral.
For a patient who is not regular in the practice, need a referral from a regular GP or Specialist with your current medication summary. We will maintain regular communication with your referral doctor.
